Starting off with the young guns, I'm not diminishing the effort they put in, but it's important to highlight that they were misdirected kids. This misdirection led to the demise of a few individuals from other neighborhoods, who had no quarrel with the Young Guns (YG), yet were killed mostly out of hatred.
When the YG arrived at Graterford in 94-95, they were ousted within a few months for aggressive behavior and were scattered throughout various jails. Most of them couldn’t handle the pressure individually; a reality I witnessed myself, similar to the individuals from JBM.
They did commit a few train robberies, acquiring some rifles and, in another instance, a haul of leather jackets. However, when violence isn’t coupled with financial gain, it mirrors the recklessness of today’s young ones, moving with stupidity and lacking guidance.
The Shower Posse dominated all neighborhoods except South Philly, thanks to individuals like the YG.
I don’t condone it, but it's worth mentioning while also acknowledging the YG as South Philly legends.
Having visited nearly every neighborhood growing up, none compared to Tasker. It was a different scene, especially during the dollar party days when Kre and Dre began rapping.
Tasker residents lived on 27th Street for a while. After Twan’s demise, Tasker residents residing on 27th Street, like Spud, LL, and Hak, ensured the younger ones got home safely every night.
Many may not know, but the OGs from 27th Street were placing bounties, knowing well that Tasker would cash out.
In the early 2000s, several squads emerged: The Firm, TCYG, Blacktop, PNC, BAD FELLAS, among others.
PNC focused on making money rather than seeking trouble, making a fortune selling candy at various locations to the extent that their OGs believed they were involved in serious criminal activity. PNC represented Patton, Napa, Corlies Street.
TCYG was primarily engaged in playing Stanley.
Badfellas' second generation included individuals like Lil Shizz, Leem, Tatah, Moon, Will, BIG WILL, Ricky, etc., following the first generation with LL, Snoop, and others. LL was the inventor of BadFellas.
The Firm had a lot of talent in basketball and frequently played at local parks. They rarely got into trouble with the law or others, being good neighborhood folks.
Any incident involving a member of The Firm getting shot or such always stemmed from them provoking someone else.
A member of The Firm, Stanley, proved himself when, while hanging around another local squad with a rivalry, he returned fire during a drive-by, saving many.
Another Firm member experienced foul play when an unknown drug caused him to lose his mental stability for a few years.
Fast forward, Boo’s younger brother T-Mac, a hustler from a young age with numerous testimonies about his hustling at 15-16, distanced himself from local disputes over the years, losing his mental stability in the process.
He was ambushed in a local convenience store, Triple Sevens, by individuals from another neighborhood. Unable to find their actual target, they settled for T-Mac, who suffered gunshot wounds to the neck, chest, and stomach but survived.
When T-Mac got hit, it triggered a massive reaction, regardless of his mental state at the time.
Tune in next Sunday for part 2
